Welcome to The Cadet Foundation. Our mission is to support programs that preserve, protect and advance the core ethos of duty, honor, country and development of citizen-soldiers through a shared experience for all. These include initiatives to assist and support cadets and grow the bond between cadets, alumni and those who support the moral, ethical and other positive principles programs and initiatives our supporters envision.

The Cadet Foundation supports free speech, academic freedom and viewpoint diversity. The Cadet Foundation publishes The Cadet newspaper as the independent voice of the Corps of Cadets and Alumni since its creation in 1871, its transition to a newspaper format in 1907, and today where cadets have editorial control of the newspaper’s contents. Our mission is to support the journalistic pursuits in publishing the student-produced and alumni supported medium of news and information by cadets and alumni in continuing the positive and proud tradition and enhance the bonds between these two essential groups. 

The interaction will enhance the academic, military, intellectual and professional development experiences of its cadet members interested in careers in journalism or related fields as well as offer leadership opportunities to practice academic, military, and personal skills. The Cadet Foundation was formed and will remains completely independent of the VMI Alumni Agencies and VMI as a state school, as any independent organization should. While we will maintain strict separation from the VMI Administration and the VMI Alumni Agencies, our operations and the programmatic decisions will be completely independently and governed by current cadets and alumni participants.
